Gary Oneil Admits Jose Sa Could Seek Move Away After Sam Johnstone Arrival

Gary O’Neil admits Jose Sa could seek move away after Sam Johnstone arrival

Wolves boss knows Portuguese goalkeeper could depart amid increased competition for number one spot

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil has admitted that goalkeeper Jose Sa could seek a move away from the club following the arrival of Sam Johnstone on a free transfer.

Johnstone, who was released by West Bromwich Albion at the end of the season, has signed a four-year contract with Wolves and is expected to challenge Sa for the number one spot at Molineux.

O’Neil said that he understands Sa’s frustration at the increased competition for places and that he will not stand in the goalkeeper’s way if he wants to leave.

Sa has been linked with a move to Manchester United

Sa has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks, and O’Neil said that he would not be surprised if the Portuguese goalkeeper made the switch to Old Trafford.

“Jose is a top goalkeeper and I understand why he would be attractive to other clubs,” said O’Neil.

“He has been a great servant to Wolves and we will be sad to see him go, but we will not stand in his way if he wants to leave.”
