Opening Day Roster Additions

The Cleveland Guardians have announced their Opening Day roster moves, adding several players to the active roster and making corresponding roster moves.

Among the most notable additions is outfielder Will Benson, who was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds in a trade last month. Benson is a highly touted prospect who is expected to contribute in the outfield.

The Guardians have also added infielder Ernie Clement and outfielder Alex Call to the active roster. Clement is a utility player who can play multiple positions, while Call is a speedy outfielder who provides depth.

Injured List Transactions

The Guardians have also placed several players on the injured list, including outfielder Josh Naylor, who is recovering from a broken foot. Naylor is expected to miss the first few weeks of the season.

Also on the injured list are pitchers Sam Hentges and Nick Sandlin. Hentges is recovering from a shoulder injury, while Sandlin is dealing with a forearm issue.

Other Roster Moves

In addition to the above moves, the Guardians have also made several other roster moves, including:

  • Optioned infielder Gabriel Arias to Triple-A Columbus
  • Designated infielder Owen Miller for assignment
  • Released pitcher Kyle Gibson

These moves give the Guardians a more finalized roster as they head into the 2023 season.

Outlook for the 2023 Season

The Guardians are hoping to build on their success from last season, when they won the AL Central division. The team has a young and talented core, led by All-Star shortstop Jose Ramirez.
