O.J. Simpson, Former NFL Star and Convicted Felon, Dies of Cancer

Football Legend's Legacy Overshadowed by Criminal Trial

July 9, 1947 – April 10, 2024

Orenthal James Simpson, the legendary former NFL running back and actor, has passed away at the age of 76 from cancer, as confirmed by his family.

Simpson's life was a tale of both triumph and tragedy. As a football star, he made history with his record-breaking performances and won the Heisman Trophy in 1968. He then went on to a successful career in the NFL, where he played for 11 seasons with teams such as the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers.

However, Simpson's fame took a dark turn in 1994 when he was accused of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman. The subsequent trial was one of the most widely publicized in American history, and Simpson was ultimately acquitted of the charges.

Despite his acquittal, Simpson's reputation was forever tarnished by the case. He was later found liable for the deaths of Brown Simpson and Goldman in a civil trial and was sentenced to 33 years in prison for robbery and kidnapping charges related to an incident in 2007.

Simpson was released from prison in 2017 after serving nine years of his sentence. However, his health declined in recent years, and he died of cancer at a Las Vegas hospital on April 10, 2024.
